1963 Dogs DOGS
Arthur Croxton Smith, Penguin Handbooks PH21, GB, 1953 (1st)

This is a small paperback book with 208 pages, but only a few photos. There is an 11-liner about the Sheltie.

Page 141: "THE SHETLAND SHEEPDOG
Here we have charming little dogs, fashioned after the style of Collies in miniature, and those who want smaller companions of great beauty and intelligence could not do better than get one. We heard nothing about them until round about 1908, when some were exhibited at Agricultural Shows in Scotland. They appealed so much when they came South that a number of kennels were started, and in 1915 the Kennel Club gave them the privilege of recieving Challenge Certificates.
In general appearance they should take after rough Collies in miniature. Any of the Collie colours are permissible and the ideal height is put at 14 in."
